Graduation Parties Are More Fun with a Kegerator

Years of hard work culminate in graduation from school.  Surely, that is a time to celebrate.  Graduation parties celebrate not only how far the graduate has come, but the excitement of the new life that lies ahead.  Many a graduation is marked by a graduation party – whether a small intimate party just for a few family members or a big blow-out bash that includes members from the graduate’s class.  And when there’s a party, especially one like a graduation party, beer is usually in plentiful abundance.

a graduation kegerator

So, if you’re planning a graduation party for someone special, consider renting a home draft fridge for the event.  Kegerators are the perfect appliance to keep a keg of beer cold all day long and make it easy to neatly dispense beer from the tap.  This means that if you are having an open house party all afternoon in the heat of May, June or July (like many graduation parties are), the beer will stay cold even as the later guests arrive.

Of course, if the graduation party you are throwing is to celebrate a high school graduation, you should use your best judgment about having a kegerator filled with a keg of beer at the party, since most of the guests might be underage.  If that is the case, you do not want to invite trouble by having a bunch of high school kids find out that the party with the keg is at your house.

No, that would not be cool.  But, if you are throwing a college graduation party or a graduation party to mark the completion of grad school, law school, med school or the like, then by all means go ahead and break out the kegerator.  In those instances, you can be sure that having a keg of beer at the party will be a welcome addition to the recent grads.

Another use for a kegerator at a graduation party is as a graduation gift.  No, you probably wouldn’t buy a recent grad a full size kegerator that houses a whole keg of beer (that would be better left for the fraternity they might have just left!).  But, mini kegerators and portable kegerators make for great gifts that are a bit different than the norm and probably won’t be repeated by someone else.

Mini kegerators are small appliances, usually made of stainless steel and pretty nice looking, that house a mini keg of beer (only 5 liters).  They are the perfect size for the new graduate that is just heading out on their own in a new (small!) apartment, but that wants to be able to entertain friends or to just relax after their new job with a frosty, cold one.

For those that are often on the go, portable kegerators, which are also small, allow the new grad to take the party on the road with them (not literally!), so if they are heading back to their old stomping ground for a tailgating party (link) or to visit some frat buddies, the beer can be on hand.  Of course, you should just first make sure that the recipient of your graduation gift is over 21 years of age before presenting them with the gift of a mini or portable kegerator for graduation.  And you should make sure that the graduate will appreciate such a gift, rather than getting a new briefcase, pen set or ipad.

Graduation parties can be the perfect social occasion for setting up the kegerator, assuming the party’s guests are of age.  They also make for easy clean up after the party, since there are not loads of cans and bottles to have to pick up and recycle.  Speaking of recycling, tapping into a keg rather than cases of beer, is an environmentally responsible way to celebrate the big milestone and each half keg of beer can save as much as five pounds of waste from the aluminum or glass used for beer cans and bottles.

Happy Kegversary! A Kegerator to Express Love

Your anniversary is approaching – a day representing years of blissful happiness.  Whether you’re married just one year, ten years or are coming up on an impressive number such as 40 or 50 years, the day is typically marked by some type of gift or gesture that represents a declaration of your love.

Anniversary Kegerator

The problem for many people, however, is finding a suitable anniversary gift that will truly be appreciated and enjoyed.  For women, it’s a bit easier than for men, since a gift of jewelry or flowers will usually do the trick.  But what to buy for the man in your life?  If he likes beer, think about buying him the ultimate guy gift for your anniversary.

A kegerator as an anniversary gift?  Really?  Sure, why not.  If your guy loves beer, or simply enjoys to spend time relaxing at home over a drink with you or a few of his buddies, then a kegerator may be the perfect gift to express your love.  It is a gift that recognizes the things that make him happy in life (beer), makes him realize that you appreciate all he does and indicates that you think he deserves a little time to kick back and relax, plus it’s a pretty cool gift that he he’ll enjoy.

Kegerators make the perfect anniversary gift for those who are married to beer lovers, because they are the type of gift that your guy probably wouldn’t buy for himself (because he’d think you’d get mad at him!) but that he’ll really appreciate having.

So, if you decide that you’re married to the type of guy that would love a beer refrigerator as an anniversary gift, then your next step is determining what to buy.  The first decision you’ll have to make is what kind of kegerator would he like and how much you want to spend.  You can get a mini kegerator for as little as $100, give or take a few bucks, or you can spend quite a bit more if you’re instead looking for an under the counter kegerator to fit into your home bar.

Home kegerators can vary in size and finish (such as stainless steel, black, etc.), so you’ll have a number of options to choose from.  If your guy prefers bottled or canned beer to the draft beer that is dispensed from a kegerator, you may want to opt instead to buy him a beer refrigerator.  A beer fridge is just like a wine cooler or wine fridge in that it is a mini refrigerated unit that is set up to easily store beer bottles or cans.

Buying your honey a kegerator or beer refrigerator for your anniversary may not seem like the most romantic of gestures, but you can rest assured that if your guy enjoys beer, he’ll enjoy your gift much more than many of the other “gifts for men” that are often marketed by businesses and stores.

A gift of a kegerator lets your man know how much you appreciate him and how much you support his interests.  It lets him know that you value his relaxation, want to enjoy quality time spent with him on a quiet night over a cool drink, or that you’re okay with letting him sit back with his buddies over a Sunday football game or a late night of poker while having a few cold, frosty brews.  What could express your love better than that?

Poker Night Is A Great Time To Tap The Kegerator

For many guys across the nation, poker night is a night to get together with a bunch of buddies to shoot the breeze, drink some beer, maybe smoke some cigars, and of course, to play poker.  For those that have a home kegerator, poker night with the guys can be the perfect excuse to tap the kegerator and toss back a few beers while relaxing and having a few laughs.

Home kegerators provide the great tasting draft beer taste that you can otherwise only get at an actual bar.  They keep the beer cold and fresh and dispense the beer through a tap, just as the bartender would at your favorite watering hole.  The great thing about scheduling poker night at the house of whoever owns the home kegerator is that it can make you feel like you’re actually playing the game at your local casino, or in the back room of your local bar.  This can make “guys night” feel that much more authentic and can add to the ambiance surrounding your favorite card game.

In addition to the draft beer you’ll all enjoy from the home kegerator, poker night wouldn’t be complete without some good food.  Pizza is often a favorite of poker night, but depending on how much effort you want to put into the food at your get together, you may also want to opt for a barbecue, where you can make Guinness  sliders, hot dogs, ribs or steak.  Of course, you can also order in wings, Chinese food or some other favorite ethnic food.  Or, everyone can simply bring a snack or two and you can make do with whatever winds up on the table.  For the most part, everyone will be more interested in the great tasting beer than what kind of food is on the menu, so planning the menu doesn’t need to be too big a deal.

If your poker night games include a bunch more guys than would play in any one game at a time, you’ll probably notice that the extras that aren’t in the game will have no problem sitting out if they can hang out around the kegerator and have a beer or two when they’re not playing.  It’ll give friends time to shoot the breeze, tell a few jokes or catch up on each other’s lives.  If there’s also a dart board or a pool table nearby, that’s another good diversion for those that are not playing cards and will surely be a welcome addition to poker night festivities.

Of course, poker night doesn’t only have to be a guys-only night out and can be an equally fun night when there is mixed company or when it’s a ladies-only night as well.  And, whether poker night consists of guys only, girls only or a mixture of the two – and whether it’s a singles night or a night that those who are married get a break from the usual routine, poker night is sure to be a much anticipated night out for all.  Adding in some great tasting draft beer and some good eats are sure to add even more to the card-playing fun!

Housewarming Parties and Portable Kegerators

Welcome To The Neighborhood!

Welcome To The Neighborhood!
Looking for a great way to welcome in the new neighbors down the street? Host a housewarming party for them! You can invite a bunch of people from the neighborhood so that the new family can feel welcomed and can get to know the people that live on their street.

Another way to welcome new neighbors to the neighborhood is to plan the party at their house (with their permission, of course!) and have each person in the neighborhood bring some food or drinks so that the new family is more the guest than a host.

If you want to plan a housewarming party at either your own home or the home of a new neighbor, having a portable mini kegerator (and bringing the mini keg with you to the party) is a great way to add to the festivities. A portable kegerator is basically a small sized appliance, about the size of a coffee maker, which houses a mini-sized keg of beer and dispenses it from a tap. Because of its small size, it is easily transportable, so you can take it with you when the party is somewhere other than your own home. And since a mini kegerator holds as much beer as a bunch of cans or bottles, it is an easy way to show up with the beer for the party, and also serves as a gathering spot for guests during the party.

By setting up a portable kegerator at a housewarming party, it serves as a place where people can gather and can get to know the new neighbors. For some reason, the kegerator becomes the spot to “hang out”, much like you would sit around the bar in a restaurant. Maybe it’s just the great tasting draft beer than no one wants to be far from or maybe it’s just the fact that a mini kegerator is a cool conversation piece that draws attention to a crowd. Whatever it is, having a mini kegerator to gather round is very different than if everyone just takes his or her own can or bottle of beer from a cooler and then disperses. Even better? If you neighbor has a keezer (freezer converted to hold kegs) then you my friend have hit the jackpot!

KeezerA Keezer in its natural habitat

If your neighborhood is extremely social and generous, and always enjoys having a good party, you and your neighbors may even want to consider chipping in a few dollars apiece to buy the new neighbors a mini kegerator as a housewarming gift from the rest of the neighborhood. Check out a cool service call Pay It Square. You can collect/pool money online for a gift.

Of course, before you do so, you should try to find out if the new neighbors even enjoy drinking beer, because if not, this gift may not be very well received. But if they do, it can be a rather unique gift that says “Welcome to the neighborhood! We look forward to spending fun times with you in the future.”

If you’re looking to buy a mini or portable kegerator for the new neighbors as a housewarming gift, you can find models that range in price from around $100 or so to upwards of $300 or more. Mini kegerators often come in a sleek, stainless steel design, so they are sure to go with most any décor and look great on a home bar or kitchen counter. Most can be plugged into a standard electrical outlet at home or can be converted to an adaptor that plugs into a car, truck or RV for those that like to take their party on the road.

Housewarming parties are a great way to welcome new neighbors to the neighborhood, while also being a great way for old neighbors to catch up with one another. Gathering around the portable kegerator – or chipping in to supply the new neighbors with their very own mini kegerator as a housewarming gift – can really be a thoughtful way to let your new neighbors know that you are happy to have them in your neighborhood.

Surprise Party Necessities: Food, Friends, Beer

What’s the  secret to throwing a good surprise party? The secret is that the best parties are all about who’s on the guest list. Good food and good beer are certainly an added bonus, but they’re not the most important thing. I know. I know. This is a blog about kegerators and beer, but good friends and close family are “Numéro Uno” without a doubt.

Kegerator Surprise Party

Decorations and gifts are nice, but they don’t solely make for a good party. So, if you are thinking about planning a surprise party for someone close to you, the most important thing is to make sure that the most important people in their life are present – and that those they don’t like are not.

Once the guest list for your surprise party is taken care of, then you want to think about things like food, drinks and entertainment. If the party is for adults, then alcoholic beverages are usually part of the game plan.

If the host of the party has a home bar, complete with a home kegerator that serves delicious, authentic-tasting draught beer, then you’re in luck because kegerators offer a great option for serving the beverages at the party. If you don’t have an authentic beer dispenser like a kegerator, that doesn’t mean your party is ruined, however. You can see if someone you know has a mini kegerator that you can borrow for the evening, which will still dispense great tasting draught beer. The mini kegerator’s size will allow someone else to easily bring it to the party, and then all you’ll need to do is buy a few 5 liter size mini kegs to put in the beer dispenser to keep the beer flowing all night.

If you can’t get your hands on a kegerator for the surprise party, have no fear. A beer cooler filled with some of the guest of honor’s favorite brand of beer in cans or bottles will do the trick just fine. If there are wine drinkers at the party, you can also make sure to have a few bottles of wine on hand as well. You can even opt to have a fully stocked bar, complete with hard liquor, but doing so can get expensive and is a better option if you’re also hiring a professional bartender.

Aside from beer and other alcoholic drinks, you’ll also want to consider food for your surprise party. The type of food you offer will depend in part on how formal or informal you want your party to be, what type of food your guest of honor and his or her friends prefer, and your budget. You can throw a surprise party with a light menu of just chips and snacks or can have a full meal served. You can be as informal as pizza and wings or can have a fully catered affair with upscale appetizers and decadent desserts. You can plan the whole menu and buy all the food yourself, or you can ask each guest at the surprise party to bring a dish and make the party a pot-luck event. The point is, you have a ton of different options when it comes to the food being served at a surprise party, and you’ll find that whatever option you choose will not change the level of fun the party delivers.

So, if you are planning a surprise party for someone, your first order of business should be to make sure you get the guest list right – don’t leave important people off the invitation list and don’t have people on there that don’t belong. Then take care of things like drinks and food – try to find a kegerator or ask if any guests have a mini kegerator so you can all enjoy some great tasting draught beer throughout the party or stock the cooler full of cans or bottles of beer.

Or, if you have more of a wine drinking crowd, make sure you have enough wine on hand. Then choose a menu that suits the overall mood of the party crowd and your budget. After that, if you are interested and still have time and money left over, you can worry about things like decorations, paper goods, invitations and the like. The truth is that the guest of honor is usually so happy that someone took the time out to plan a party just for them, that their gratitude is in the thought and planning that goes into the party, not the little details that serve as “extras” to make the party a bit more special.

Religious Celebrations and Keg Dispensers: What's The Connection?

Have you ever wondered if there’s a logical connection between religious celebrations and kegerators? Probably not, but in fact, there are many religious celebrations where having a kegerator on hand can add to the festivities. You see, when a bunch of people get together to celebrate a major event, such as a religious celebration, there is often alcoholic beverages, or at least beer and wine present. And if there’s beer, what better way to dispense it than from a keg, housed in an attractive looking kegerator that does the job of keeping it cold and keeping the keg out of sight?

beer churchA church bar/pub that mixes religion and the art of beer making.

Some religious celebrations that you may find kegerators at include bar and bat mitzvahs, christenings, baptisms, holy communions and such. It is not the religious part of the celebration that warrants the use of a kegerator, but the fact that most of these religious events are accompanied by large gatherings of family and friends to celebrate the religious milestones. So, if you are throwing a party with adults in attendance for any type of special event, having a kegerator on hand to dispense the beer can be a highlight of the party.

For some, planning a celebration tied to a religious event includes selecting a professional catering venue to hold and coordinate the event. This means that your religious celebration may take place in a catering hall, restaurant, club or hotel ballroom. Often when an event is held at a formal catering facility, the facility takes care of all food and beverages served at the event, and also supplies servers and bartenders. If this is the case and beer is being served, chances are that behind the bar sits a commercial kegerator, which houses one or more kegs of beer that will then be dispensed to guests on request.

Commercial kegerators are the types seen behind bars at restaurants and pubs (actually, they’re usually not seen because they’re under the counter and out of sight, but you know that they’re there). These types of kegerators can have one or two taps or more and can allow the dining establishment to offer multiple types of draught beer on tap to its patrons.

If you are coordinating the planning of the festivities for your own religious celebration and it will not be occurring at a restaurant or formal catering facility, you may have to arrange to have your own tables and chairs on hand and to set up an area for food and beverages. You can rent the items you need from a party rental company, complete with the long tables required to set up a buffet of food (along with the sterno and serving dishes) and a bar (along with a kegerator full of beer). You can hire your own servers and bartenders, or sometimes the rental company can even provide them for you so you can save yourself the extra step of having to hire wait staff separately.

However you choose to celebrate a religious milestone with your family and friends, you will find that having a keg dispenser can be a handy accompaniment to your celebration. You might never have thought before about the connection between religious celebrations and kegerators – and you might never again – but when it comes to planning a party or celebration, you will quickly see the benefits of having a beer dispenser on hand, if you choose to serve alcoholic beverages at the event.

Movie Night: Grab Some Popcorn, Candy and Beer?

Want a great excuse to hang out at home and enjoy some good entertainment and good company? Plan a movie night! Movie nights can consist of just you and your honey, the whole family or a bunch of friends that you invite over for a more social gathering. Then, all you need is a good movie to watch that everyone agrees on, and some food and drinks and you’ve got yourself an “official” movie night party!

Kegerator Movie Night

When most people think of movie night, they think of some of the treats they would otherwise get in their local movie theater. This means that there’s usually plenty of popcorn and possibly an assortment of favorite movie candy, such as Twizzlers, Sno-Caps or whatever people like. But, the nice thing about having movie night at home, rather than heading to the local theater (aside from the big difference in price!) is that you can also have a drink or two while enjoying a good flick – something you can’t do at most theaters, amidst all the popcorn and candy.

For those that have a home kegerator, grabbing a couple of draft beers along with some buttery and salty popcorn is a good combination to enjoy while watching a good movie. Home beer kegerators supply great tasting, cold frosty beer on tap, just like the local bar or pub, or the bar at your favorite restaurant. So, if you have a beer or two from your kegerator, along with some good movie treats while watching a first run movie that you rent, you can enjoy all the benefits of a night out without the hefty cost.

Opting to plan a movie night, either as an intimate evening for two or a group get-together, can save you loads of money over a night out. For one, renting a movie can be a really cheap form of entertainment. You can rent a movie on demand for usually $4 – $6, depending on how new the movie is, can head to a store that rents movies (which will cost you about the same amount as renting them from your cable or satellite provider), can plan ahead to get the movie you want from NetFlix, or you can even find one of those Red Box machines at your local supermarket or other location, which allows you to rent a movie for just $1, if you bring it back the next day. If you’re willing to watch a movie that’s not a first run release, you may even be able to rent the movie for free, so the entertainment portion of your evening will cost you nothing.

Then you’ll continue to save on food and drinks. Rather than a bag of popcorn and a drink costing you an arm and a leg at the theatre, you can probably pop a bag of microwave popcorn for about $1 or less, can eat all the candy your sweet tooth can handle for the price of just one movie-sized box of candy at the theater, and can add in pizza, Chinese food or almost any other type of food you want, and you’ll still probably be ahead of the game financially compared with a night out at the local movie theatre. If you also consider having a few draft beers from your home kegerator rather than making a stop at the local bar after the movie, you’re really starting to add up the savings compared to what it would cost if you headed out.

In addition to all the money you can save by planning a movie night at home, complete with favorite munchy foods and draft beer from your own kegerator, you can enjoy some other benefits as well. You’ll have the privacy of being in your own home, so you can talk with friends if you’re in a group or snuggle up on the couch under a blanket if the evening is just planned for two. You can avoid long lines at the theater, nasty weather outside (the best time to plan a movie night is when the weather isn’t so great anyway), and the need to get dressed to impress.

So the next time you’re in the mood to see a good movie, grab some popcorn, candy and great tasting draft beer, choose a good movie and some good company, and have some fun!

Planning an Oscar Party? Don't Forget The Kegerator!

Once a year, Oscar night is a much anticipated event for movie lovers. What better way to celebrate your favorite movies and movie stars than with an Oscar party? Oscar parties can be the perfect reason to get together with friends and take in the glam of Hollywood. So, if you’re planning an Oscar party this year, what should you have on your “must-have” list? Champagne? Canapes? Beer?

Oscar Party with Kegerator

If your crowd is more interested in drinking beer than champagne, or it’s simply a more practical and economical choice for your Oscar party, then you may want to break out your mini kegerator or tap into your home kegerator, if you have one.

Sure, it’s nice to have free-flowing champagne to get into the Hollywood mood at an Oscar night party, but the fact is that many people don’t like drinking champagne, and even if they do, it gets pretty expensive to supply champagne for a crowd for an entire evening. Instead, you can set up the mini kegerator and let people help themselves throughout the party to great tasting, draft beer. It may not be champagne, but chances are it will be enjoyed by your guests more than the bubbly stuff (and won’t leave you with a nasty hangover the next day!).

Beer in champagne glass

If you want to make your party more glam, you can serve the beer out of champagne flutes rather than beer mugs or simply plastic red cups. You can even find plastic ‘throw-away’ champagne flutes so that you can easily have enough for the whole crowd. Then your “bubbly” can just be fresh, draft beer from the kegerator, rather than expensive champagne, but your beverage choice will stay consistent with your party theme.

Drinks aren’t the only thing to think of when planning your Oscar night party, however. Food is also a big draw at parties such as these. You may want to skip the casual chips, wings and beer for something a bit more upscale to get into the Hollywood theme, but you can easily do so with some easy-to-make appetizers and finger foods that are as fun to eat as they are easy to make.

If you want to make the party really easy on yourself, you can just supply the kegerator filled with beer and ask each guest to bring an appetizer or dessert to the shindig. By doing this, it makes it easy for you to organize the party, and everyone is usually more than happy to show up with a dish to share with friends.

Of course, what’s Oscar night without some glamorous clothes and hairdos? To really get everyone in the mood for your Oscar party, make your party a dress-up night. You can put info on the invitations about what style of dress is most appropriate – you can make the party dress semi-formal, formal attire, or can even suggest that your guests come dressed as their favorite Hollywood actors. Some people prefer to have a more casual party, but if you want to immerse yourself in the Oscar night theme, dressing up can really set the mood.

However you decide to plan your Oscar night party, it is sure to be a fun event that will give everyone a reason to get out of their house on what may be a cold, February night, and enjoy good food and drink with friends while rooting for their favorite flicks and stars.
