The last Monday in May, known as Memorial Day, is a date that is anticipated by many throughout the United States all year long. This is because while this federal holiday was enacted as a way to honor all those brave individuals that have given their life during military service to our country, Memorial Day also signifies the “official” start of the summer season.

Memorial Day is a big day for parties, social gatherings and barbecues. It is a day to hang out outdoors, assuming you are lucky enough to have some nice weather where you live, and to revel in the fact that this outdoor celebration is just the beginning of a fun-filled and sun-filled summer. Of course, it is also a day to take some time out of our busy schedules to honor our fallen heroes. So, if you’re headed to a BBQ this Memorial Day weekend, why not bring along your portable kegerator?
Very often summer BBQ’s are low-key and easy going. Everyone brings something to join in the fun, so the day can be spent enjoying each other’s company outdoors rather than having to slave away in the kitchen. Someone may bring the potato salad, while another guest brings corn on the cob or watermelon. So, for your Memorial Day barbecues, as well as just about all summer outings, why don’t you make yourself known as the Kegerator Guy – the guy that brings along his portable kegerator? Being the Kegerator Guy is probably a sure-fire way to make it on many a summer BBQ guest list.
The great thing about bringing a portable kegerator to a Memorial Day BBQ is that you have an easy and convenient way to dispense cold, fresh beer while enjoying yourselves outdoors. No need to keep running back into the house to grab a few cold ones from the fridge, and no reason to have to clean up all those cans and bottles at the end of a warm summer day. Just tap your portable kegerator and you can have cold, flowing beer all day long without ever leaving the sun.
Portable kegerators are generally known as mini kegerators. They are given this name because they are smaller than standard size kegerators and because they are designed to fit mini kegs in them. A mini keg is a 5 liter keg, although some mini kegerators will even hold 6 liter mini kegs as well. All you need is an outlet to plug the appliance into, and your mini kegerator will keep your beer chilling at a perfect 38 degrees Fahrenheit all day long. Just tap the keg for some cold draft beer whenever you’re in the mood, and continue with the enjoyment of the day.
The great thing about a portable or mini kegerator is that it’s portable. Since the device is small enough to fit a mini keg inside, it makes it also small enough to easily transport with you wherever your social plans take you. All you need to do is to bring along your portable kegerator, along with a mini keg or two of your favorite beer (you can store extra mini kegs in the fridge until they are ready to be called into service), and you’ve got an easy and much anticipated contribution to any Memorial Day barbecue. And if you haven’t tapped out the keg by the end of the day, you can just bring the extra beer home with you for your own future enjoyment.
