Kegerator Forum: Do I have a pressure leak?

Hello all!

I just bought my first kegerator a couple weeks ago and i'm about to purchase my first keg for it later today. I'm purchasing a 1/4 barrel of Not your Fathers Rootbeer from Small Town Brewery (tasty stuff!). I wanted to make sure everything was set and ready to go with no issues before I bought my keg. The stuff isn't cheap at $125 a keg not including the $60 ked deposit! I've done a lot of research on my own and everything is hooked up to spec. I have an Igloo single tap kegerator and i'm using all the supplied hardware with the dual gauge regulator and 2.5 lbs tank. My kegerator temp is at a steady 38 degrees.

So here's my issue. I wanted to pressurize the system yesterday and identify any possible leaks. All my O rings are good and I even teflon taped all connections. My tank pressure is at 500psi which appears to be normal since the tank is inside my kegerator, it was a solid 750 psi when I had it at room temp. I set my outgoing pressure to 12psi, this seems good for most beers but i'm not sure if this good for the type of beer i'm going to be using. Anyways I opened up the connection going from the regulator to the keg tap but closed the connection at the tap, keep in mind it's not connected to a keg yet. I set the outgoing pressure to 12psi and then closed the main valve co2 bottle valve. It held 12 psi just fine for hours and when I checked it this morning (roughly 12 hours later) it was at 11 psi. This would tell me that I may have a minor leak as it dropped 1 psi in 12 hours. Is this a cause for concern or are there other variables involved?

The only other variables I could think of is that I was fiddling with the pressure for some time with the kegerator door open and the internal temp of the kegerator rose to 45 degrees. When I came to check this morning the internal temp was 36 degrees. I know this could cause a pressure drop in itself. Also the other issue could be the gauge itself as it seems to stick alittle. Maybe I never truly set it at 12psi and the gauge just settled over the 12 hours?

Any thoughts on this? Should I be good to go to connect the keg or is this a problem?
