Hey Everyone,
Total noob here. My company is opening a small office and we want a kegerator and tap for our staff room. We're debating going for a more expensive unit (probably a TRUE or Perlick), instead of a cheaper one in the $600-$900 range. The local kegerator installers all insist that the cheaper kegerators are absolutely worthless. On the other hand on of our employees says that he has known people who got the cheaper ones and had no problems. No one working for our company is a beer connoisseur, we really just need something that is reliable and presentable. How much added value will we get from a better kegerator? Is it worth going all out, or would we get a better value from a cheaper model? Thanks a ton, Fuzzlenuts |

In my opinion, the entry level kegerators like the ones that you see on the Home Depot website are nothing more than overpriced dorm fridges with a tap tower coming out the top. I was looking into getting one for my garage, and I decided it would be way cheaper to build my own. I am not tooo sure of the higher end kegerator systems. From what I have seen and read, they seem okay, but it is all in what you want, and how much you want to spend. For me, I would make sure that it is going to do everything that I want before I lay down thousands on it. Things that I would look for would be quality of internal components. Kegerators that carry an NSF certification certainly can't hurt. I think that when it comes to a specialty item such as a kegerator, you absolutely get what you pay for. Kegerators for the home are something that have grown in popularity in the last decade, so some manufacturers may only be concerned with getting a piece of the action, rather than worrying about service after the sale. Good luck on the hunt, and it sounds like your office would be a fun place to work! |
