Hey everyone, newbie here (obviously.)
The wife and I just purchased a new home with a finished wet bar in the basement. The tap on the wall is connected to a homemade kegerator in the laundry room. I'm wanting to get this thing up and running and I'd like to put a keg of Boddington's in it. I already know I have to replace the beer lines because I have no clue how long the previous owner let it sit withoug cleaning. Now for the real questions. I've read a few different places that for Boddington's I'll need to get a tank with Nitrogen instead of CO2. Does anybody know anything about this, such as cost, availability, etc. Also, the current kegerator has the CO2 tank sitting next to it with a line running through the wall of the fridge in to the tap but I've always heard that it's better to keep the tank in the fridge itself. Any input would be great. Thanks! |

Congrats on the kegerator!
Definitely replace the lines. It's always best to just start over if you don;t know how the lines were taken care of. You will need a tank like this for beers needing Nitrogen https://www.kegerators.com/equipment/10lb-nit ... The room temp (hot or cold depending on where you live) air will alter the beer temp when they mix if the tank is on the outside. It is best practice to have the air tank in the fridge with the beer, so the air and liquid are the same temp.null |

Thanks for the quick reply! The more research I've been doing on this the more money it looks like I'm going to have to sink into this project, but I think it's worth it. I've read a couple of different places that I'm going to need to replace my faucet with the european kind made for stouts, though I can't get a clear answer on if that's really necessary for Boddington's, which is primarily what I want to dispense. I may go ahead and get it anyway because apparently it's pretty easy to convert it for use on other beers as well. All of that, and find a way to seal the hole where they had the CO2 lines running out of the fridge and I should be set. Hopefully I can get everything sorted in time to have a good New Year's party. |
