Kegerator Forum: Complete Newby - Kegerator set-up

I recently took delivery of a Summit kegerator with American Sankey tap.  My first attempt to tap a keg (pilsner) was a disaster - too much foam - and would appreciate any help / clarification on the following:

a) do I have the CO2 and beer lines set up correctly?- bee line is attached to the top of the tap, and the CO2 line to the side.

b) I have installed a shut-off valve in the beer-line. (The kegerator is located in a place where unauthorised persons could get access to my beer!) There is not much room between the shut-off valve and the roof of the kegerator so the line is crimped - would this cause foaming?

c) If the crimping above could be the cause of the foaming, can I shut off beer supply by lifting the lever on the tap or is this not advisable? I will of course shutting off the CO2 supply.

Thanks for any help given.
