Just got my first kegerator, a Summit 550B, put a 1/4 barrel of local IPA on a few days ago. So far it is great, everything I expected a kegerator to provide. I have 2 concerns, however. My pour is ideal but the pressure is at about 4-5 psi and I wonder if that might not be high enough to keep beer fresh, and secondly, the cleaning process seems confusing, and I don't really understand what to do or how often to do it. I have read the cleaning kit instructions but that gets me more confused. Any information and tips would be appreciated. THanks. |

4-5psi does seem a little lw usually around 10psi, but all depends on the type of beer you drink.
I have also heard, it depends on the elevation you live at. You should clean your kegerator everytime you change kegs. Hope this helps. |

Brewdude is right. If you are at sea level your internal keg pressure is around 12-14 PSI. And that's what you want your beer to flow at. (Assuming you only have a short draw system.) You'd want to run your pressure at 12-14 for most beers. I'd say for an IPA that should be a good starting point to keep the beer carbonated from start to finish of the barrel.
Cleaning isn't that bad once you've done it a few times, and depending on what company you talk to you should clean your lines from every 2 weeks to every month. A-B recommends every 2 weeks, where as the local distributor of Miller near me is every month. If you tell me what type of cleaning equip you have I'll get back as soon as possible. |
