Hi there,
My wife recently surprised me with a dual tap outdoor Summit Kegorator. While she did not buy it from this website I was wondering if you may be able to assist me with a temperature issue I am having. No matter how cold I turn the thermostat I cannot get it to go lower than 44 deg, and as we all know this is not good for beer. I am measuring the temp by putting two separate thermometers in a glass of water inside of the kegorator. Also to make sure I do not have a bad thermostat I moved the thermostat probe off of the cooling plate on the back wall and also placed this into the glass of water. For the past 24 hours now (since the thermo move) the kegorator has been running non stop and only dropped 2 degrees. I am starting to think that the compressor and cooling unit is not sufficient for outdoor cooling of beer and the current outside temp is only in the 90's and going to get hotter here in central Texas. Before you ask, the unit is not in the sun and the door has not been opened and closed alot. Austex Appliance, where my wonderful wife bought this unit, is passing off the buck even though I have only had it for 13 days. So now I am dealing directly with Summit in New York. I thought the best part about buying local is that they would be close and take care of any issues that may come up but this turns out not to be the case. Summit is sending out a service man Friday to check on the unit but so far for a $1,700 investment I am not to pleased and the wife wishes she never would have got it for me now. This should work out of the box and cool down to AT Least 38 deg according to Marc in customer service @ Summit. Bottom line is what can I do to get it cooler? What questions should I have ready to ask the repair man when he comes to look at my brand new kegorator? Should I just return the unit which seems like it is going to be one heck of a fight even though the wife bought it local? Thanks for your time, Bummed in Round Rock |

I am having the exact same problem with the same unit except that I am up in the 48 degree range. My unit also ices up big time. I think my issue may be that the unit itself does not seal tightly. I tried helping the seal of the door with magnetic tape as there was seemed to be a gap on the bottom of the fridge when I ran my hand along the seal. The door still doesn't 'stick' real well. I put the unit on the coldest temp yesterday - So far no improvement at all. I ran PVC pipe from the tower to the unit and silicon sealed the pipe to the fridge, so I don;t think the issue is the top of the unit.. I called Summit several times about this and after my call to them today, they are sending out someone for repairs. Mike S Bummed in Fairview, TX |
