Hey all - New to the forum. Looking at buying my first kegerator. Right now, I'd need a stand-alone - looking at the Summit(SBC490ST) or Haier (HBF205EABB) Double Tap models. In about a year, I'm going to have a kitchen remodel and want to put the kegerator under the counter. Would it be possible to simply remove the tower from the top of the refrigerator and mount it on the countertop? Thanks. rich |

I have a similar concern. I'm looking to build a bar in my home, and want an under-counter kegerator for homebrew. I would prefer to have the tower and taps on top of the bar. It seems like buying a ready-made kegerator is pretty much a wash compared to trying to convert one, but I haven't really seen any under-counter models without the tower already mounted. Are there ones that give you that option, or as Rich above me asked, is it as simple as unmounting the tower? Are there any other considerations, like insulating or sealing the opening, and what do you do about refrigerating the beer lines after they leave the kegerator? |

Just joined the webpage and not too impressed with the minimal replies from the brew community. Anyhow, I contacted Haier relating to recessing the kegerator and about taking the tower off. Haier does not recommend recessing or placing their reefer under a counter. The compressor needs to get air to stay cool. They recommend at least 1" above the kegerator and 2" on either side.
As far as the tower, it does remove and a cap seal allows it to be utilized as a reefer without the tower. |

Just joined this site so not sure if you are still doing research on this topic? I just built a bar/hutch and placed my Haier under the countertop. I just notched out the back of the top to allow ventilation. Anyway, if you'd like I can send you some pictures of it. |

Have had a Haier for 7 years and installed it into a bar under a counter. Have had no problems with heat as I vented the side and have about 2" clearance at the top. I have the tower installed in the countertop above the kegerator and have had no issues at all. Just keep the opening insulated. |
