How to Stock My Home Bar
So you have decided to take the extra step and place a bar into your home. Itís okay if youíre wondering what exactly you might need. You can make your bar as flamboyant or interesting as you desire, but there are some basics that every bar needs.
Letís start with the alcohol. A minimum to have on hand for a well stocked bar would be one bottle of each type of liquor. If you want to go top shelf all the way, we recommend:
- Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila
- Grey Goose Vodka
- Tanqueray Gin
- Bacardi Rum
- Jack Daniels Whiskey
With these five on hand, you should be able to make just about any drink that comes your way. In addition to the alcohol, make sure you have any Ďextrasí that may be called for, such as:
- Bitters - a bitter or bittersweet type of spirit made from different herbs roots and plants, used to add flavor and a dry zest to drinks.
- Sour Mix - also known as sweet and sour mix or bar mix, it is made of lemon or lime juice and sugar syrup, and is an important part to many cocktails.
- Triple Sec - a strong, clear, orange flavored liqueur used in many favorite drinks.
Also, make sure you have plenty of mixers on hand, like cola, sprite, ginger ale, fruit juices (cranberry and orange most importantly) and tonic water. Also, this cannot be stressed enough, have loads of ice on hand. No one likes a warm drink.
Now that you have all of the liquid ingredients for your home bar, make sure you have the right tools. The most important of which will be an adequate shaker set. Most recommended will be a stainless steel set, with different sizes available, including a 24oz, 16oz and 8oz. To go along with your shaker set, be sure to have a strainer on hand to fit your shaker. Both of these come in many different colors and styles, so you can show off your personality. Also make sure to have a jigger on hand, which allows you to properly measure the amounts of alcohol you will be using. There are many other nifty tools that you might be able to use, but these three will keep you in the mix of things completely adequately.
Next, be sure to serve your all star beverages in the proper glasses. It is always good to have a nice martini set, and margarita glasses always come in handy. Cocktail glasses will be used for just about anything, and even novelty glasses such as Hurricane glasses will sometimes come in handy. Also make sure to have plenty of pint glasses, so that all of your guests can toast at the same time.
One last item that may come in handy no matter what kind of party you may throw is a good quality blender. Frozen drinks are ever popular these days, so a blender that can handle being used rather frequently will be an excellent addition to any home bar.
With these items in your bar, any party or gathering will be a success, because you will be well equipped to handle any of your guests needs.
