Honestly, simply serving good quality beer from a home beer dispenser will have people talking. The décor surrounding such a noteworthy appliance can greatly increase the gossip, however. The style and function of your bar accessories vary as much as the varieties of beer available in the world! The home beer dispenser adds a feeling of warmth and welcome in whatever environment it is placed, although usually relegated to the kitchen, basement, or garage, a back porch kegerator can add that extra something to your backyard Bar-B-Q’s. The spiffy new kegerators of today are much neater and streamlined than the beaten-up-old-fridge-conversion, and even suitable for the living room.

Now if you really want to stir up some waves, try putting some exotic ales into your kegerator. If you have more than one tap on your kegerator, you can always have one "regular beer" for the unadventurous among your guests. By making an effort to acquire - or brew – unique new taste sensations you will introduce both your household and your friends to new experiences.

I would recommend a regular Pale Ale as the standard. Such ales are considered palatable by most folks. Your alternative tap, of course, should change with the seasons. Try a strawberry blonde ale for summer, or even a more exotic drink like Pulque (made from Agave syrup), or Mead. A nice light Spring mead that has been ageing for a long time is a great alternative for those who dislike beer and have not the stomach for harder stuff. I have met many people who quite enjoy mead, and even ales brewed without hops, who were never able to enjoy beer due to an allergy to hops (I am glad I did not inherit that allergy)! For this reason I always try to keep a non-hopped brew of some sort around, especially mead.

A pumpkin ale is a good choice for an All Hallow’s Eve Party, or for Thanksgiving, and make sure you change your "REGULAR BEER" tap to Guinness for St. Patty’s Day or you are sure to get pinched or worse.

You should only serve better quality beers from your kegerator. And we’re NOT talking Budweiser here, folks. I know It’s better than many beers that have a similar level of national distribution, but that doesn’t make it quality. What we are talking about is locally crafted beer. Visit your local microbrewery and see what they have on the way of kegs – you might be pleasantly surprised at the prices as well. If you don’t have a local microbrewery, I highly suggest brewing at home. Your very own finely crafted ales served out of your home bar will definitely make an impression. Your brews will become a legend among friends and word will definitely spread quick. Yes, home brewing is definitely a good way to make friends!
